Get to know someone: Create a playlist

I remembered today that I still have Eddie Rabbit’s I Love A Rainy Night on my iPod from an Edmonton Oilers’ 2006 playoff run playlist. I want to say it was on Ryan Smith’s playlist but sadly for some reason I think it was on Chris Pronger’s.

Regardless, playlists are a fun way to share different content. We used to create them when we wanted to profile someone in a different way in the online version of our magazine. (like this one with a local radio DJ)

They can also be a great way to share something different about someone’s life in a staff enewsletter by bringing together the songs they like to listen to when enjoying recreational activities for example.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to iTunes and select “File” and click on “New Playlist”
  2. Name your playlist and select the songs you want to add to the list
  3. Once you’re done selecting your songs, click on the arrow to the right of your playlist name and select “Create iMix”
  4. Give your iMix a description and click on “Publish”
  5. You’ll get an email when your playlist is up with a link you can use.

Apple used to let you use songs you didn’t own, but I don’t think you can anymore.

To generate the tags for each individual song, go to the iTunes link maker to retrieve the code for each song.

So here’s my quick playlist.

Campfire tunes

We’re going camping soon and oh how I wish someone in my family was talented enough to play the guitar. Sadly, not the case so here’s the second best thing – some guitar songs. (Note: Not all my songs were available (ex. if you’ve uploaded a song via CD).) Click here to view the entire playlist on iTunes.
